GRAW??

Okay. The game has been out for several months now... has received a few nice patches including one providing the "Firefight" game type from the Original Ghost Recon ("OGR").
The game is a killer on PC's and I have gone to the trouble to upgrade my machine so I can play.
It has been so unpopular that the price has dropped quite a bit. Like $30 new and I think it can be found for a lot less used on eBay.
So have any of you 7S'ers' bought the game and installed it? Play it? Anything??
Just wondering.
That is all...... ;D

I have tried the demo version and my brand new PC can't hack it. The graphics card although great for other games can't cope. I will have to leave this game until my next PC purchase in maybe a couple of years.

Yep, had it and played it. Really wasn't impressed all that much, for a supposeidly replacement for the original GR. Had problems also with my machine, but didn't upgrade spending a couple hundred dollars to just play a 50 dollar game. So, the best and only fix I found was free. UNINSTALL. Now I just do AA. Had problems with the lag of BF2 and took that off also. If you like Graw and now have no problems with it then stick with it. Sometime down the road when all problems are fixed and everything else is ok I might reinstall, but for now I can be found playing AA with the ASE guys on their server

I never tried GRAW. I took one look at the things that were being said about it when it was in development and knew I was going to hate it so I didn't bother wasting the time or money. Had problems with the lag of BF2 and took that off also. I don't know what system specs you have, but RAM makes a huge difference to BF2. I had loads of lag with it before I built a shiny new rig in January this year, but with 2GB of RAM it runs smooth as silk with all the settings maxed. My brother also did the same thing around June or July and got a similar result, and a friend of mine added another 1GB of RAM to his existing system (taking it to 2GB total) but left the CPU, GFX etc all the same, and he saw a big improvement too.

isn't GR:AW pushing some new sort of hardware graphics add-in that is supposed to do graphics calculations to take the load off of the main gpu? i don't remember, maybe it was a different game, but that pissed me off. i don't want gr:aw now. i'm just gonna play my plain ol' gr ds/it, not that i have much time for it anymore

I'm running an AMD64 2800 with 1G of ram with an ATI X850 256 video card. It would make a difference if I added more ram, but I can't see the logic to pay $139.00 for ddr3200 400ns ram to play a $50.oo game. Maybe later, but not right now

I won't mention how much my shiny new rig came to in January then... Lol
Although in fairness, I didn't do it solely for BF2. I knew it'd help, but that game wasn't the reason I did it. I figure I should be okay hardware-wise for a while yet. The Big Black Box now has an Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego core, a GeForce 7800GTX and 2GB dual channel RAM. And the overclocks on the CPU and GPU make it nice and quick...

Since when has a gaming PC EVER cost less than the video game? Any halfway decent video card that can play GR will cost more than GR.
I also wouldn't be surprised if most people who played GR when it first came out spent some money to upgrade their rigs to play GR. I did. Then I did it for the IL2 series.
Let's see... since I saw GRAW going for about $35.00 at Walmart I guess you're expecting to get a $30 PC to play it?

Since when has a gaming PC EVER cost less than the video game? Any halfway decent video card that can play GR will cost more than GR. Ummm, it hasn't to the best of my knowledge. Hopefully that wasn't in response to my post as I was just having a bit of fun. I think we all know that games will cost far less than the platform on which they are run, just like gas will (or should) always cost less per tankful than the vehicle which it propels (some would consider that a game in itself.) Just play and be happy that you can get so much enjoyment from your cash outlay when you get to play a complex game such as GRAW or BF2 etc. Think back to the days of PC/XTs when they were about $5k and we were amused that they could play pong. It's just a pain that game requirements keep pressing the limits of hardware such that upgrades are such a frequent occurrence. Then again, for the most part, it is gaming that drives hardware engineers to design components to higher levels of performance. Disk drives have become much faster, cooler, quieter and reliable. CPU clocks have attained speeds in gigahertz. That's fast! Video is no longer confined to text messages and cute ascii shapes. I'm not sure that anyone would willingly retreat to an IBM PC/AT even if it could play their games. I recall having a 386sx/40 Mhz machine and thinking that there was no reason that anyone would need more computing power than that for home use. Hmmmm. Smile and pay, I mean play! Rat-ski

I am just going to wait til February before I get more ram. I'm just shutting everything down now, because of retirement, maybe starting new job, and everything that figures in with ending one career ( 36 years at UPS ) and starting a new one ( apprentiship in goldsmithing, ( repairing watches and jewelery). A local jewelery shop will train me, I just have to show up.
