Yeah, Happy Valentine's Day all. Hmmm, the meaning of Valentine's day...there was this guy, St. Valentine, who was killed. Not sure why. Some people say he was persecuted, some say it has something to do with the army, some say he was helping Christians escape Roman prisons...I dunno.
But today we celebrate Valentine's Day by showing people that we love them and what not...but shouldn't we be doing that all year long. It's kinda like Christmas, the day that we remember and celebrate Christ's birth. We should be doing that all year long too. Ok, another post by me that doesn't make sense. Let's see if I can sum my whole point up in a couple sentences....
Let people in your life know that you love them all year long, not just on one day out of the year. Share God's love with everyone. Tell people that Jesus loves them, b/c He does!!
"All the darkness in the world cannot hide the light of the smallest candle".

JG, Listen to what Brooke said and hear what the Spirit of the Lord is speaking to you and all of us, that we should owe no man nothing but to Love them. The Lord paid a hefty price for all of us, and we are saved from the final judgement because of Him. Seek not revenge, or self justification, or even self vindication, but let your first move be forgiveness. Then the Fruit of the Spirit can move through you and in you for you. There is no reason not to forgive anybody for anything, for all of our sin, and sins have been washed away by His Precious Blood. Yes Brooke our celebrating His Love for us everyday will be that little candle of light that cannot be put out by all the darkness in the world. You are one of the Lord's precious candles.

* looks back over shoulder *
Have I blundered into Sunday school...? Lol
I think the point that everyone's missing about Valentine's Day - the thing that makes it really important - is that Hallmark make a fortune out of selling cards for no particular reason... Heheheh.
It's a good point to wonder about the sense of having a special day set aside for something that you surely ought to be doing all year round though... The logic also extends to plenty of other events too - Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day, Rememberance Day, Armistice Day etc etc...

Nothing wrong with Sunday School, Gav. In fact, I really enjoy it. Oh and add Easter to that list also. Better yet, we should all celebrate God's love everyday and the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Because what it all comes down to is love, and that He loved us first, giving us the ability to love others. Love can be a hard thing to do though. But we should love others as Christ loves us.
Yeah Sarge, that's so true. Some easier said than done, but true nonetheless. I think to some extent we all struggle with that. There is some passage in the Bible that basically says not to repay evil for evil, to just let the only one worthy to judge and condemn do that. That's really hard to do, but it's what we need to do.

It wasn't intended to be easy, for it is written, My grace is sufficient, in your weakness is My Strength revealed. Even all of our goodness and good intentions has to go by way of the cross. When we learn to cease from our works and enter His rest, then His glory is revealed and recieves all the glory and credit. It takes alot of time listening and waiting and wanting His Heart on any subject or situation. Humble yourself before Him, casting all your cares to Him, for He cares for us, and will exault us in due time. But, don't let the term of time bother you or discourage you for His timeing is't like the way we see it in terms of seconds, hours, days, or years. He already sees us complete in Christ, for our life is hid in Christ.

if you really think about it, God asks so little of us, because we only have to spend a few decades on earth, but He offers us an eternity with Him! We get the better deal because He cares enough about us to make sure we get the best, but we do need to understand that how we turn out on earth is unrelated to how the rest of eternity for us will be, and that is hard. everyday pressures to succeed make it seem as though the only thing that matters is to make the most money any way possible. I have trouble with being greedy, whenever i think about what i need, i never think "i need salvation", its always "i need money" but i just got off topic again... as happens every other time i try to post a long reply, i have forgotten the relevant point i was going to make. but i will be thankful for my poor short-term memory, it can be a blessing too

Sorry I let this thread go, I haven't been around much...
Well I don't agree...not sure if you meant that this way though. What we do on earth totally determines WHERE we will be spending eternity. If we get saved and live our lives for Christ, we will spend eternity with Him in Heaven. On the other hand, if we reject God and deny Him, we will spend eternity in Hell. Bible says that countless times.
God loves us so much, and that love is hard more me to fathom. While we were dead in our sins, He sent Jesus to die for us so that if we believed in Him, we could have eternal life with Him.
The devil tempts us all the time. He doesn't want us to go to Heaven. He wants to break down our faith. There's this cool passage in the Bible that someone showed me the other day: 1 Corinthians 10:13 Basically, that we are going to be tempted, but God won't let us be tempted beyond what we can bear and that he provides a way out so that we can bear it.

JG, Brooke has lightened up, by the Light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's by Grace we are saved, not by works. That's the Gospel, Jesus did it all for us. He died for our sins and as us the sinner. Therefore, Humble yourself before God, casting all your cares before Him, for He cares for you, and He will exault you in Due time.
